THE COZY LIVING ROOM WITH WORKING WOOD STOVE AT ROSE COTTAGE

THE ACCOMMODATIONS: Rose Cottage is a one-story, one-bedroom stone cottage—a beautifully restored farm building ideal for a couple. Stone, wood, and natural fabrics have been used extensively in this recent makeover to give the clean, modern cottage a traditional Irish charm. The bed-room has a double bed and a full bathroom with shower. The open-plan kitchen/living/ dining area is furnished with dining table and chairs, and upholstered living room group with a color TV, stereo, and solid fuel cast iron stove built into the fireplace (may be used for supplemental

heating, or just to add an authentic Irish coziness to the room). The well-appointed kitchen has a fridge, electric range, microwave, and dishwasher. There is a private, walled, furnished patio in front of the cottage. A barbecue grill is available for cook-outs. Private parking is immediately next to the cottage. Enjoy the lawn, board games, and bicycles that are available at the cottage. Conveniently, a laundry room and pay phone are available to guests. The cottage has electric heating.

TERRYGLASS VILLAGE

THE SETTING: Rose Cottage is one of three converted farm cottages in an idyllic rural setting just 1.5 miles from pretty, award-winning Terryglass village in northern County Tipperary—the very center of Ireland. Surrounding the cottages are 140 acres of organic farmland with newborn lambs in the spring, and with blackberry picking and jam making among the harvest activities of autumn.
Nearby Terryglass village traces its beginnings to a monastery founded by St. Columba in 549AD. Terryglass is frequently visited for its harbor on Lough Derg, Central Ireland’s largest lake, which makes the village a mecca for sailors and fishermen. Despite its small size, Terryglass offers two excellent eating establishments, the award winning Paddy’s Bar pub/restaurant (with traditional Irish music several times weekly), and the seafood specializing Derg Inn family-run pub/restaurant (music performances often). Less than ten minutes south of Terryglass at
Kilgarvin Quay is the gourmet restaurant Brocka on the Water (great food, no music).
Importantly, the nearest store is 5 minutes south of Terryglass at Ballinderry village, or 10 minutes north in Lorrha town. The nearest principal towns with large markets and numerous shops are Portumna (15 minutes north), and Borrisokane (15 minutes south).

THE LOCATION: At the northeastern end of Lough Derg, Terryglass is in the very center of the Republic of Ireland. It is perfectly located as a touring base for exploration of most of Ireland, and especially the nearby counties of Tipperary, Offaly, Galway (& the Connemara), Clare, Limerick, Laoise, and Kerry. Principal cities and towns within easy day-trip reach of Terryglass include Dublin, Limerick, Ennis, Galway, Nenagh, Tralee, and Birr. Shannon International Airport is only 1.5 hours from Terryglass. Dublin International Airport is less than 3 hours away. Major attractions within easy day-trip range of Terryglass include the Burren National Park, the Aillwee Cave, the Cliffs of Moher, the Craggaunowen prehistoric project, Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, the thatched cottages and medieval churches at Adare, the manicured gardens of Birr Castle Demesne, important medieval monastic sites at Clonmacnoise, Lorrha, Roscrea, Clonfert, and Holy Cross Abbey, the peat bog experience of the West Offaly

LOUGH DERG — CENTRAL IRELAND'S GREAT LAKE

Railway, and the medieval fortress/cathedral the Rock of Cashel. Within day-trip reach are castles in abundance: Redwood Castle, Birr, Portumna, Nenagh, Knappogue, Bunratty, Dunguaire, King John’s, Kilkenny, and Cahir to name but a few. There are lively markets in Nenagh and Killaloe on the lake and pubs with traditional Irish music in Terryglass, Nenagh, and Garrykennedy.

NENAGH GOLF CLUB

ACTIVITIES: In addition to touring throughout Ireland, guests enjoy water sports (fishing, boating, swimming) on Lough Derg, cruising on Lough Derg, golfing at courses in Portumna and Nenagh, walking at Portumna Forest Park, or in the nearby Slieve Bloom, Silvermines, and Slieve Aughty mountains, pony trekking, visiting nearby craft shops in Puckane and Ballyartella, and joining in the traditional Irish music nights at several local pubs.

THE HOSTS: The three guest cottages were constructed in 1999 on the organic farm where the family has lived and worked for generations. The owners and their family live on the property and are enthusiastic, knowledgeable hosts, eager to help their guests discover Ireland from a comfortable, central, rural base in Co. Tipperary.
