THE ACCOMMODATION: Peg’s Thatched Cottage is a comfortable accommodation for 2-5 persons. The historic cottage is an authentic thatched one-story house in the center

of charming Puckane village, in rural County Tipperary, Ireland. The cottage is comprised of three bedrooms (one with double beds, one with twin beds, and one children’s bedroom with bunk beds), one full bathroom (with shower only no tub), a living room, and a fully equipped, practical kitchen with dining area.
Peg’s Thatched Cottage is set on a small piece of land between the Puckane schoolhouse and the main street of the village. Thanks to insulated windows and the cottage’s thick walls, what minimum traffic travels the main road is not heard inside.
The well-equipped cottage includes a washer-dryer, microwave, wood stove and color TV. Each room has a separately controlled electric heater. Private, off-street parking is next to the cottage.

THE HOSTESS: A local representative residing in Puckane of the absentee owners serves as welcoming, informative hostess eager to help visitors appreciate Tipperary and enjoy touring throughout the region.

THE SETTING: Pukane is a typical rural Tipperary town in the scenic center of Ireland. Services in Pukane include a pub (which also serves lunches) and a small grocery.

The principal market town of Northern County Tipperary, Nenagh, is ten minutes from Puckane village. Nenagh has numerous shops and restaurants, a major church, a fine golf course, even a castle tower. Photo © Home At First.
THE MARKET TOWN OF NENAGH
IS 10 MINUTES AWAY.

A wide selection of shops and services is a ten-minute drive from Puckane at the market town of Nenagh on the Dublin-Limerick road. An excellent selection of eating places—ranging from traditional Irish music pubs, to trendy bistros, to elegant 4-star continental restaurants—is found in the area.

THE LOCATION: Pukane offers a wide variety of activities, especially touring, walking, fishing, golf, and history. Nearby is central Ireland's biggest lake, Lough Derg, which offers fishing, boating, swimming,

and walking around its perimeter. There are many castles and castle ruins in the region, like the Rock of Cashel and Birr Castle Demesne, as well as important ecclesiastic sites, like Clonfert and Clonmacnoise.
Puckane’s central location makes it a superb base from which to explore Ireland from the border with Northern Ireland to the south coast and across the breadth of the island. Day trips throughout Ireland are easily accomplished from Tipperary. But close by amid some of Ireland’s timeless rural scenery you will find excellent walking, superb fishing, and great golf on challenging world-famous links and on friendly local courses. And, within easy day-trip reach, are the dynamic cities of Limerick and Dublin.

ACTIVITIES: Touring throughout much of Ireland within day-trip reach of the center. Wonderful outdoor opportunities for golf, walking, biking, fishing, boating, and horseback riding. Shopping for local crafts, especially woolens. Exploring castles, museums, monasteries, cathedrals, and stately homes. Cruising the lake, exploring peat bogs, discovering prehistoric ruins, and touring in the mountains and valleys by car. Visit fairs, exhibitions, and Irish music and dance festivals.         Delightful local pubs and restaurants provide sustenance from the hearty to the sublime during active days in Ireland. The region offers excellent dining, and many restaurants, cafés, tea rooms, and pubs are within a short drive of Peg's Cottage.
There is always traditional Irish music playing somewhere nearby—in a pub, in a theater, in a town square, or in a festival. There are local open-air markets in most neighboring towns, and Irish wooden crafts, woolen goods, and crystal glass are well-known local products. Golf is played throughout the region, on unknown, lush, local courses that will delight all golfers, and on internationally known

courses (like Ballybunion and Lahinch) which will challenge even excellent players. And, if you tire of the scenic beauty and genuine hospitality of rural Ireland, a two-hour drive brings you to Dublin, cultural center of the nation and Irish round the world.
