Attractions elsewhere in Funen: Castles (like Egeskov Slot, Europe's best-preserved moated Renaissance castle), palaces, and great manor houses; Funen Village open-air museum of local agriculture; charming fishing villages; prehistoric sites with Viking and Bronze Age artifacts; beaches of pebbles (shingles), and golden and white sand. Most offshore islands are connected to the Funen mainland with road bridges but a few require ferry journeys to reach.
