THE ACCOMMODATIONS: Mare and Foal Cottage is the expanded 4-person capacity, two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage resulting when Mare Cottage and Foal Cottage are combined by unlocking their otherwise secure double connecting internal doors. Mare & Foal Cottage is a one-story, traditional whitewashed Irish cottage beautiful new construction ideal for two couples traveling together looking to share some facilities while maintaining separate (and private) bathrooms and bedrooms. Stone, wood, tile, and natural fabrics have been used extensively in this purpose-built vacation cottage to give the clean, modern lodging a traditional Irish charm. Each bedroom has a double bed (which may be split into twin beds). Both bathrooms have a shower, but no bathtub. Each half of Mare & Foal Cottage has its own open-plan living room/dining area/kitchen, furnished with dining table and chairs, and upholstered living room group featuring a color TV, stereo, and solid fuel stove in the fireplace. -THE SETTING: Mare & Foal Cottage is set in an idyllic rural setting just 1.75 miles from pretty, award-winning Terryglass village in northern County Tipperary the very center of Ireland. Surrounding the cottages are 140 acres of organic farmland and pastures with horses, sheep, and lambs in the spring.

Importantly, the nearest store is five minutes south of Terryglass at Ballinderry village, or ten minutes north in Lorrha town. The nearest principal towns with large markets and numerous shops are Portumna (15 minutes north), and Borrisokane (15 minutes south).

THE LOCATION: At the northeastern end of Lough Derg, Terryglass is in the very center of the Republic of Ireland. It is perfectly located as a touring base for exploration of most of Ireland, and especially the nearby counties of Tipperary, Offaly, Galway (& the Connemara), Clare, Limerick, Laoise, and Kerry. Principal cities and towns within easy day-trip reach of Terryglass include Dublin, Limerick, Ennis, Galway, Nenagh, Tralee, and Birr. Shannon International Airport is only 1.5 hours from Terryglass. ACTIVITIES: In addition to touring throughout Ireland, guests enjoy water sports (fishing, boating, swimming) on Lough Derg, cruising on Lough Derg, golfing at courses in Portumna and Nenagh, walking at Portumna Forest Park, or in the nearby Slieve Bloom, Silvermines, and Slieve Aughty mountains, pony trekking, visiting nearby craft shops in Puckane and Ballyartella, and joining in the traditional Irish music nights at several local pubs. |

THE HOSTS: Mare & Foal Cottage was purpose-built in 2007 on the organic farm where the owners' family has lived and worked for many generations. The owners and their family live Ό-mile away in their own house on the property and are enthusiastic, knowledgeable hosts, eager to help their guests discover Ireland from a comfortable, central, rural base in County Tipperary.
