THE ACCOMMODATIONS:
Lakeside Cottages are a grouping of nearly identical holiday accommodations on a secluded,
quiet, private property on Dromineer Bay next to the Lough Derg Yacht Club, third oldest
in the world. Eight cottages are in "twin" houses and three cottages stand as
separate houses. The ground floor of each two-story cottage includes a living room with
open fireplace, color TV and telephone, a kitchen with range, oven, dishwasher,
fridge/freezer, microwave and coffee maker, and a double bedroom (twin beds). The second
story of each cottage has two bedrooms (one with twin beds and one with a double bed and
built-in bathroom with shower), the master bathroom (with tub/shower), and a laundry area
(washer/drier). There is private driveway parking as well as safe parking on the
cul-de-sac in front of the cottage. See floor plan of a
sample 3-bedroom, 2-bath cottage, below. |

horseback riding, fishing and walking close by. The
Lough Derg Way,
part of Irelands national system of walking & cycling routes, currently begins
at Dromineer and continues 20 miles south through beautiful Irish scenery to Limerick.
Dromineer is an ideal location for touring throughout much of the Republic of Ireland.
Within day-trip reach is the lower two-thirds of the island except for the rugged
peninsulas of southwestern Cork County and southern Kerry County.
The region is known for its fine local
craftsmen and for numerous excellent local restaurants. There are also several lively
local pubs which serve as regular venues for
traditional Irish
music. |

DROMINEER CASTLE & HARBOR |
THE
LOCATION: Dromineer Bay is an inlet of Irelands largest lake, Lough
Derg, part of the Shannon waterway, which extends from the Atlantic Ocean east and north
all the way to Northern Ireland. Dromineer is in County Tipperary, the center of the
Republic of Ireland. The region is rural, scenic and historic. The land is hilly and
wooded. There are many farms, most concerned with dairy cows or sheep production. The
landscape is dotted with
small towns and villages, each
appearing more attractive than the last, for Tipperary is a prosperous part of Ireland.
There are
castles in all states of repair, from ruined towers (like the one by the yacht
club at Dromineer) to privately owned palaces.
Theres good food here, hearty local Irish
foodsteaks and salmon and lamb and potatoes and garden greensas well fine
foods from the Continent and the ocean. There is a wide variety of shops and
restaurants. The market towns of Nenagh (10 minutes drive) and
|
|
Killaloe (20
minutes drive) offer good shopping and
eating choices. The small,
historic city of
Limerick is 25 miles away. Irelands
capital city and cultural center,
Dublin, is 90 minutes
northeast of Nenagh. Tipperarys central location makes it a great base from which
most of Ireland south of Northern Ireland, including coastal lands east,
west, and south
may be explored in a series of long and short day trips. But Tipperary is itself worthy of
exploration. The regions beauty, its friendly, welcoming residents, its castles,
golf courses, music, food,
easy hiking, salmon fishing, and
many other attractions combine to provide Tipperary with the best of Ireland.
