NEAR DINGWALL, ROSS-SHIRE,
NORTHERN SCOTLAND
————————

Fourteen cottages
on 4,000 acres of
classic Highlands scenery.

THE COTTAGES: There are 14 Northern Highlands Cottages spread across an expansive estate. Each is unique, but all are similarly appointed with fully equipped kitchens and comfortably furnished living rooms. All are set in isolated locations on the estate away from noise, congestion, traffic, and pollution. Most feature fine views across meadowland overlooking a river valley with distant Highlands hills. Some of the cottages offer accommodation for 2-4 persons using A row of two "semi-detached cottages". Photo © Home At First.2 bedrooms. Larger cottages can sleep as many as 12 persons with up to 5 bedrooms, and offer multiple bathrooms. Six of the lodgings are in groups of two "semi-detached" cottages. Three of the lodgings are in one row. All lodgings have separate, private entrance, TVs, and fragrant, usable peat fireplaces. All cottages are heated with individual heating registers in each room. Private, off-street parking is provided at each cottage. Laundry facilities are provided in the estate's central building.

THE SETTING:
The Scottish estate has 4,000 acres of classic Highlands scenery, including fields of sheep, heather clad hills, trout streams and a loch, beautiful gardens, long driveways lined with exotic trees, dark lochs and swampy ponds bustling with bird life, and a graceful river with fishing and walking along its banks.

THE LOCATION: The estate is near the sizeable market town of Dingwall, which provides shops, restaurants and other services guests require. Touring the far north of Scotland from the Dingwall area via a series of day trips is easily accomplished by both car and rail travel. Within reach are such popular destinations as the Nairn coast to the east, the Cairngorm mountains and Loch Ness to the south, the Isle of Skye to the west, and the remote Northern Highlands leading to John o’ Groats on the northern tip of Britain. The Dingwall area is an excellent central base from which to explore the best of northern Scotland.

Touring the Northern Highlands provides a stunning array of scenes and scenery. Photo © Home At First.ACTIVITIES IN THE REGION: Fishing, hunting, golf, hiking, and biking are perfect activities from this rural central location in the beautiful northern Highlands of Scotland. The estate’s location makes a central base for touring throughout northern Scotland. Within easy reach are several notable castles including Eilean Donan, Urquhart, and Cawdor castles, among others. Other important places to visit include Culloden Battlefield, the Black Isle, the city of Inverness (less than 30 minutes drive south from the estate), Loch Ness, and Scotland’s wild west coast at Ullapool. There are excellent golf courses within easy reach, too, including Royal Dornoch, Brora, Nairn, Tain, Inverness, Golspie, and others. Several local Scotch Whisky distilleries are worth a visit including Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Strathisla, and others. Walkers will enjoy the several peaceful and pretty walks available on the estate. There are many walks nearby, too, ranging from coastal and canal-side walks to dramatic climbs up Munros like Ben Wyvis and other high mountains in the area. Fishing and hunting can be arranged with equipment and guides on the estate. Guests may fish on the river for wild brown trout and on the loch for pike without cost. Guests may pay to fish for stocked brown and rainbow trout on the estate’s stocked 2.5 acre pond.Loch Ness with Castle Urquhart and Nessie's wake. Photo © Home At First.
The estate can also organize skeet shooting, mountain biking, target shooting, a special course in off-road 4x4 driving. There’s also a guided tour available that explores the history and ecology of the old Highlands estate.
