Golspie Golf Club is close to Royal Dornoch, one of the world's great courses. Like
Dornoch, Golspie is a links course set alongside the North Sea in the far northeast of
Scotland. And, like Dornoch, the course is very picturesque. But, unlike Dornoch, Golspie
is a course for everyone, and at the right price.
The course is a mixture of seaside links,
heath, and parkland. It opened in 1889, and is another design of James Braid, the prolific
and often great Scottish course architect. With five interesting par-3's (holes 2, 6, 10,
16, & 17) and a long seaside par-5 (number 4), Golspie offers variety and challenge.
When the North Sea winds stir, the placid course takes on a very different character.
Golspie Golf Club is just outside of its
namesake village located in the center of the east coast of Sutherland county, half-way
between Inverness and John O'Groats. Close by are beaches, beautiful countryside, and
Scottish history. Outside the town is imposing Dunrobin Castle, the ancestral home of the
Earls of Sutherland. A statue of the first duke can be reached by climbing the summit of
Ben Bhraggie. Another scenic attraction is the Big Burn waterfall, in a beautiful small
gorge only 20 minutes walk from the north end of Golspie.
