THE ACCOMMODATIONS: The Glaziery may be the English garden cottage of your dreams. Nestled at the end of a quiet, almost secret, walled passage, itself at the end of a quiet lane, the cottage seems cloistered in protective isolation. Yet, it is only seconds from the heart of a classically picturesque Cotswold village full of such dream cottages.
The Glaziery so named because of its stained glass windows and art glazier owner is made of yellow-gold Cotswold stone, surrounded by trees, and features a private, walled, formal rose garden ensuring privacy and peace, with a patio for outdoor

dining. The cottage is completely non-smoking and

pet-free.

The cottage sleeps up to four people in two second-floor bedrooms with hardwood floors and open-beamed high ceilings, both with night storage heaters. One has an antique French Empire double bed, matching wardrobe and dressing table, marble-topped washstand, corner linen closet, and night storage heater. Bedroom two has stone mullion windows with a garden view. Its double bed includes a dark oak headboard made from a carved church screen. There are two bedside closets, a large mahogany highboy chest, a hanging rail for towels
or clothes, and a small oak seat.

Between the bedrooms is a large shower room fully tiled with a double shower with sliding doors, a pine vanity unit with an inset basin, toilet, heated towel rail and shaver point.

The ground floor has a well-equipped eat-in kitchen with oak cupboards, electric range and hood, built-in refrigerator/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher. Spotlights from the open-beamed ceiling keep the room cheerful—a pleasant place to dine for up to four persons. This room, too, is kept cozy via night storage heater.

COMFORTABLE LIVING ROOM WITH INGLENOOK FIREPLACE

The large living room is furnished with antiques,
and has a wonderful old oaken floor covered with oriental rugs. One wall is of exposed stone and the ceiling has open beams. A large working Inglenook fireplace is the centerpiece of this room and perhaps of the cottage. Around the fireplace are two comfortable wing backed armchairs, a settee, coffee table and television. The room’s windows have stained glass panels dating from the 16th century.
French doors open up from the living room to the enclosed formal garden with its flowerbeds and patio furnished with wooden and matching chairs. A car is necessary here, and private parking is available in the owner/host’s neighboring driveway.

THE HOST: The friendly, helpful owner/host resides in a neighboring cottage. The host is an artist who works in the medium of stained glass. Examples of his work are found in the windows of The Glaziery cottage, and one outstanding example may be seen in Westminster Abbey. The host takes an active interest in his guests, ensuring their comfort and satisfaction.

THE SETTING: Broad Campden is a pristine Cotswold village comprised of many traditional cottages (thatched and otherwise) of golden Cotswold stone, charming church, Friends meeting house (dating from the 17th century and the oldest in England), and a friendly pub offering excellent food and real ale. Broad Campden is a satellite of the famous Cotswold market town of Chipping Campden. An historic town that became prosperous during the Middle Ages when the region’s wool exports were desired throughout Europe,

Chipping Campden is today a prosperous touring with its magnificent church, and High Street full of interesting small shops, lively pubs and

restaurants. Chipping Campden may be less than 5

minutes away by car, but it is also within easy walking distance (about one mile) of Broad Campden. The delightful 20-minute walk to Chipping Campden leads from The Glaziery through the grounds of Maidenwell Manor with wonderful views of Chipping Campden along the way.
If you like walking, Chipping Campden is the start of the Cotswolds Way, which crosses the Cotswolds from north to south, ultimately ending in the famed small city of Bath. Another well-marked long-distance footpath, the Heart of England Way,

is only about 5 miles away.

THE LOCATION: For many, the region known as the Cotswolds represents the best of traditional England. Extending from Bath in the south almost to Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon in the north, and from the Welsh border in the west to Oxford in the east, the country of the Cotswolds invites exploration. Broad Campden is in the northern and best-known part of the Cotswolds, famed for its numerous villages and towns of multiple hyphens — Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Hill and many others without hyphens Stanton, Broadway, Chipping Norton, Upper and

Lower Slaughter, Winchcombe, to name but a few.

Using regular rail services from nearby Moreton-in-Marsh, Central London may be reached in about 90 minutes.

TOURING, ATTRACTIONS, AND ACTIVITIES POSSIBLE: Numerous inviting villages and towns are scattered among the hills and valleys of the Cotswolds. Open-air markets and antique shops are plentiful throughout this historic region. Many castles, manors, formal gardens, and grand estates are open to the public. Walking paths, including the long distance Cotswolds Way, crisscross the region.
Other outdoor pursuits include horse riding, fishing, golf, sketching, and sightseeing. Cycling in the region includes on and off-road routes, and short and long-distance trips on dedicated mapped

and marked bike paths. Day trippers will want to
explore great little Cotswolds towns including: Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford, Chipping Campden, Cirencester, Lower Slaughter, Moreton-in-Marsh, Snowshill, Stow-on-the-Wold,
Stanton, Stanway, and Lower & Upper Swell. There are noted castles (Warwick, Sudeley, Broughton, and Blenheim Palace) and manor houses to explore, gardens to visit, theaters to attend, and a fine steam tourist short line to ride (Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway).
