KILLIN
CENTRAL SCOTLAND
Modern Cottage Apartment by a Rushing Salmon River. A Superb Touring Location, with Excellent Hosting.

THE SETTING: Corrie Craft Shop, Main Street, Killin. Photo © Home at First.Dochart Cottage is home of recent construction on the edge of a classic Scottish town overlooking the rushing River Dochart. Killin town is the northeastern gateway of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park in Central Scotland. Killin—at the point where the Rivers Dochart and Lochay enter the western end of beautiful Loch Tay—has several fine restaurants and pubs, numerous shops, a scenic 9-hole golf course, and is an outdoor activities center. The cottage’s central location makes it a great base for touring throughout much of Scotland. Outdoors enthusiasts will find superb walking, hiking, climbing, fishing, golf, horseback riding, cycling, and kayaking close by. There’s history, too, with numerous castles—one just 15 minutes walk from the cottage—and prehistoric sites easily reached by day trip.

Living room, Dochart Cottage Apartment. Photo © Home at First.THE ACCOMMODATIONS: The ground-floor cottage apartment has a large open-plan main room with well-equipped kitchen, dining area, and living area with TV. Apartment capacity is 4 persons with two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with twin beds), each with its own bathroom (with shower—no tub) and color TV complete the accommodation. The apartment is centrally heated, has use of washer and dryer. Outside, guests have private parking and use of a private barbecue and picnic area with frontage on the River Dochart. Guests interested in fishing for trout or salmon may do so, as the cottage has fishing rights.

EXCELLENT HOSTING: The owner/hosts reside in a completely separate part of Dochart Cottage. The host is an avid outdoorsman who can provide detailed information about and—by special request—help organize fishing, and hiking activities.

"We loved our lodgings near Killin—a great location, wonderful host/hostess, and lovely accommodations."
                                                                —Susan & Dennis O'Neill, California

TOURING, ATTRACTIONS, AND ACTIVITIES POSSIBLE:Venerable Highlanders at a Highland Games in Central Scotland. Photo © Home at First. Central Scotland is the perfect base from which the Highlands, the Inner Hebrides isles, coastal lands east and west, and the great Scottish cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness can be reached in a series of day trips by car. The region’s central location makes it a great base from which the Highlands, the Inner Hebrides isles, coastal lands east and west, and the great Scottish cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness can be reached in a series of day trips by car & rail.
Located in the Highlands of Central Scotland at the northeastern entrance to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Dochart Cottage is well located for all kinds of outdoor pursuits: pony trekking, walking, fishing, cycling, climbing, river rafting, golf, sketching, and sightseeing. The region’s beauty, its friendly, welcoming residents, its castles, golf courses, Highlands festivals, challenging hiking, salmon fishing (excellent in and around Killin), and many other attractions provide it with the best of Scotland.

The Falls of the River Dochart at the western entrance to Killin. Photo © Home at First.THE LOCATION: Killin, often called the "Gateway to the Highlands", sits in the shadow of Ben Lawers (3,983 ft.), one of Scotland’s highest mountains. Located at the western end of beautiful, 15-mile-long Loch Tay where the Rivers Dochart and Lochay enter the lake, Killin is blessed with a beautiful setting, straddling a waterfall and surrounded by the Highlands. Killin is an easy day trip drive from Scotland’s east and west coasts (St. Andrews to the east, and the Inner Hebrides Islands to the west), as well as the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh (each 66 miles by car). Even Inverness, the Isle of Skye, and all of the Highlands in between are within longer day-trip distance, making this tidy village an ideal center for travel in Scotland..
Central Scotland includes regions called Breadalbane and the Trossachs, both noted for superb Highlands scenery—wild streams, clean lochs, and some of Britain’s highest mountains. Central Scotland is best known for its bad-boy favorite son, Rob Roy MacGregor, legendary Scottish patriot, whose infamous cattle rustling, inter-clan feuding, and Highland hi-jinks made him something of a Celtic Jesse James to the Crown’s red-coated army of Scottish occupation. The Rob Roy story adds dimension and color to the already mystical landscape of mountains, glens, lochs, heather, and gorse of the Scottish Highlands.
