THE SETTING: Dochart Cottage is home of recent construction on the edge of a
classic Scottish town overlooking the rushing River Dochart. Killin town is the
northeastern gateway of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park in Central Scotland.
Killinat the point where the Rivers Dochart and Lochay enter the western end of
beautiful Loch Tayhas several fine restaurants and pubs, numerous shops, a scenic
9-hole golf course, and is an outdoor activities center. The cottages central
location makes it a great base for touring throughout much of Scotland. Outdoors
enthusiasts will find superb walking, hiking, climbing, fishing, golf,
horseback riding, cycling, and kayaking close by. Theres
history, too, with numerous castlesone just 15 minutes walk from the
cottageand prehistoric sites easily reached by day trip.
THE ACCOMMODATIONS: The ground-floor cottage apartment has a large
open-plan main room with well-equipped kitchen, dining area, and living area with TV.
Apartment capacity is 4 persons with two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with twin
beds), each with its own bathroom (with showerno tub) and color TV complete the
accommodation. The apartment is centrally heated, has use of washer and dryer. Outside,
guests have private parking and use of a private barbecue and picnic area with frontage on
the River Dochart. Guests interested in fishing for trout or salmon may do so, as the
cottage has fishing rights.
EXCELLENT
HOSTING: The
owner/hosts reside in a completely separate part of Dochart Cottage. The host is an avid
outdoorsman who can provide detailed information about andby special
requesthelp organize fishing, and hiking activities.
TOURING,
ATTRACTIONS, AND ACTIVITIES POSSIBLE: Central Scotland is the perfect base from which the Highlands,
the Inner Hebrides isles, coastal lands east and west, and the great Scottish cities of
Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness can be reached in a series of day trips by
car. The regions central

Located in the Highlands of Central Scotland at
the northeastern entrance to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National
Park, Dochart Cottage is well located for all kinds of outdoor pursuits: pony
trekking, walking, fishing, cycling, climbing, river rafting,
golf, sketching, and sightseeing. The regions beauty, its friendly, welcoming
residents, its castles, golf courses,
Highlands festivals, challenging hiking, salmon fishing
(excellent in and around Killin), and many other attractions provide it with the best of
Scotland.
THE LOCATION: Killin, often called the "Gateway to the Highlands",
sits in the shadow of Ben Lawers (3,983 ft.), one of Scotlands highest mountains.
Located at the western end of beautiful, 15-mile-long Loch Tay where the Rivers Dochart
and Lochay enter the lake, Killin is blessed with a beautiful setting, straddling a
waterfall and surrounded by the Highlands. Killin is an easy day trip drive from
Scotlands east and west coasts (St. Andrews to the east, and the Inner Hebrides
Islands to the west), as well as the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh (each 66 miles by
car). Even Inverness, the Isle of Skye, and all of the Highlands in between are within
longer day-trip distance, making this tidy village an ideal center for travel in
Scotland..
Central Scotland includes regions called Breadalbane
and the Trossachs, both noted for superb Highlands scenerywild streams, clean
lochs, and some of Britains highest mountains. Central Scotland is best known for
its bad-boy favorite son, Rob Roy MacGregor, legendary Scottish
patriot, whose infamous cattle rustling, inter-clan feuding, and Highland hi-jinks made
him something of a Celtic Jesse James to the Crowns red-coated army of Scottish
occupation. The Rob Roy story adds dimension and color to the already mystical landscape
of mountains, glens, lochs, heather, and gorse of the Scottish Highlands.
