THE SHANNON CONNECTS CENTRAL IRELAND'S LOUGH DERG WITH THE
SEA. PICTURED IS DROMINEER
HARBOR, CO. TIPPERARY. |
Despite being as far from the sea as is possible in Ireland (about 60 miles), hilly
Central Ireland is a mecca as much for anglers and boaters as it is for
walkers. The local golf courses are good, and the local fishing is
better. Irelands largest lake, Lough Derg, is the western border of the county.
Its waters drain the rolling hills of Central Ireland and form the
River Shannon, flowing west past the city of
Limerick into the
Atlantic Ocean. |

"We loved our Irish cottages. They were clean and new and comfortable. The kitchens
had more than enough supplies. It was especially nice having our three cottages
together."
D. Sullivan, Colorado
"We really enjoyed our cottage. It was warm and cozy, and we felt a part of the
village. We loved the market and the pub. The ladies in the market and the post office
were all delightful to visit with. The Irish are so very nice. You did a great job for
us."
P. Nichols, Colorado

Only the furthest corners of Ireland are beyond the length of a days round-trip
journey from your Tipperary cottage home. (CLICK HERE to read a sample day-trip.) Like all of our Irish
accommodations, our Tipperary cottages are found in or near picturesque villages and
towns. The great city of
Dublin is only 90 minutes away to the
east. The wild, lonesome Cliffs of Moher of County Clare
look toward America two hours to the west. The
compressed grandeur of County Galway's
Connemara region may be explored in a day-long excursion. Many
of Ireland's most important
historic and prehistoric sites
(including medieval
castles, pretty thatched villages like Adare, Bronze Age
crannogs, and
monastic treasures, like
Clonmacnoise)
are within easy day-trip reach of
HOME AT FIRSTs Central Ireland cottages. |

"The idea of having a base from which to branch out is the only way to go. We knew at
the end of each day we had a warm, comfortable place to come home to."
D. G, Hope, California
"I truly enjoyed staying in the little town of Puckane. The people of the town were
friendly and helpful. The town's craft center has some beautiful pieces."
M. Scanlon, Pennsylvania

Ireland is a
golfers paradise, and a fishermans nirvana. You can trace family roots, shop
for woolens and tweeds, and celebrate
St. Patrick's Day. Put a
bet on the ponies, or on the dogs. Discover the excitement of Gaelic football and hurling.
Visit the Guinness Brewery, or, better yet, visit many Irish pubs and keep the brewery
busy. Seek and enjoy
Irish music in pubs, street fairs, and
concerts. Don't miss sampling
Irish and
international cuisine in fine
restaurants throughout Ireland.
