BREADALBANE LOWER APARTMENT
A comfortable, spacious family lodging conveniently
located in beautiful
KILLIN, CENTRAL SCOTLAND,
a great home base for exploring Scotland.

The Breadalbane Lower Apartment occupies the ground floor of the white house on the left of the photo. Photo © Home At First.

THE LODGING: Breadalbane Lower apartment comfortably sleeps four. The ground-floor apartment has two bedrooms (one with a queen-size double bed; one with twin beds), two full bathrooms (one main bathroom, plus one en suite with the twin bedroom), a comfortable living room (with TV), a cozy dining/kitchen area with seating for four, plus laundry area with washer and dryer. There is private off-street parking by the house.

THE SETTING: The Breadalbane Lower Apartment is locatedBreadalbane Lower Apartment twin bedroom. Photo © Home At First. on the west end of the Central Scotland town of Killin, population 700. A popular tourist destination, Killin has a good selection of pubs and restaurants, as well as food shops, a tourist center, a launderette, craft shops, an outdoor activities center, a golf course, and a bank. All services (except for the golf course) are within one-to-seven minutes walking distance of Breadalbane. The house is set away from the street, and traffic noise is minimal even on summer weekends when Killin is at its busiest.

Photo © Home At First.THE LOCATION: Killin, often called the "Gateway to the Highlands", sits in the shadow of Ben Lawers (3,983’), one of Scotland’s highest mountains. Located at the western end of beautiful, 15-mile-long Loch Tay where the Rivers Dochart and Lochay enter the lake, Killin is blessed with a beautiful setting, straddling a waterfall and surrounded by the Highlands. Central Scotland is best known for its bad-boy favorite son, Rob Roy MacGregor, legendary Scottish patriot, whose infamous cattle rustling, inter-clan feuding, and Highland hi-jinks made him something of a Celtic Jesse James to the Crown’s red-coated army of Scottish occupation. And, while it’s impossible to know where his legend ends and historical reality begins, the Rob Roy story only adds dimension and color to the already mystical landscape of mountains, glens, lochs, heather, and gorse of the Scottish Highlands.
Cannons still defend the great fortress of Stirling Castle, Central Scotland. Photo © Home At First.         The region’s central location makes it a great base from which the Highlands, the Inner Hebrides isles, coastal lands east and west, and the great Scottish cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness can be reached in a series of day trips by car. Edinburgh, St Andrews and the Fife coast are 1-2 hours to the east. The Inner Hebrides, Loch Lomand, Loch Ness, and even Inverness are easy day trips to the west and north.
But Central Scotland is itself worthy of exploration. Central Scotland’s beauty, its friendly, welcoming residents, its castles, golf courses, Highlands festivals, challenging hiking, salmon fishing, and many other attractions combine to provide it with the best of Scotland.

Photo © Home At First.ACTIVITIES: Killin is located in the central Scotland region called "Breadalbane" in the midst of superb Highlands scenery: mountains, fields, and lochs. The region attracts enthusiasts of outdoor activities: golf, fishing (stream and loch; trout and salmon), biking, horse riding, hiking, canoeing. Killin is the northeastern gateway town of Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, Scotland’s first national park. The park offers excellent walking and hiking, fishing, and cycling in some of Scotland’s most beautiful unspoiled Highland scenery. Conveniently, Killin is in the virtual center of Scotland and, despite its rural beauty, is ideally suited as a base for touring throughout much of Scotland.

Breadalbane Lower Apartment makes a great touring base. Each day when you return home, you can walk to any of several local restaurants or pubs for supper, or prepare supper in your own well-equipped kitchen. Photo © Home At First.

THE OFFER:
Discover your Scottish roots even if you’re not Scottish. You can live in a beautiful, peaceful Scottish glen, shopping, eating, and traveling like a native. Get to know your neighbors, including woolly sheep and red-haired Highland cows, and walk in the footsteps of Rob Roy MacGregor. Travel throughout Scotland by day, and return to your cozy Scotland cottage at night. Home At First makes it possible to experience the Scotland of your travel dreams.

NOTE: Breadalbane Lower Apartment consistently receives high ratings from Home At First guests.
