BLAIRGOWRIE GOLF CLUB
Golf Course Road, Rosemount
Blairgowrie, Perthshire
Scotland PH10 6LG
Tel: +44 (0)1250 872622

Here’s a classic Scottish inland golf club with a great pedigree. The private Blairgowrie Golf Club started with a short 9-hole heathland course 1889 and has grown to offer two respected 18-hole courses (the venerable Rosemount and the more modern Lansdowne championship courses) plus an altered version of the nifty original nine (the Wee Course).
Blairgowrie sits amongst the hills and rushing streams of rural eastern Perthshire midway between Home at First’s cottages in the Central Highlands and the golf rich Angus coast (Carnoustie). The history of Blairgowrie is a virtual timeline of modern golf in Scotland: founding father Old Tom Morris blessed the original site; the great James Braid (5-times British Open champion) created the 18-hole Rosemount course, design influenced by Dr. Alister McKenzie of Augusta National fame; Greg Norman’s first European Tour success came at Rosemount in 1977; a new course, Lansdowne, designed by TV golf’s Peter Aliss (with Dave Thomas—no not from Wendy’s TV ads), opened at Blairgowrie in 1979.

Blairgowrie's Black Loch on the Rosemount Course. Manus McGinty photo.THE CHAMPIONSHIP COURSES AT BLAIRGOWRIE: Rosemount and Lansdowne are set next to each other amidst wooded areas of pine and silver birch. Most fairways are lined with heather—pretty when purple, but not a very kind rough from which to extricate one’s ball. Water, in the form of a pond with the threatening name "the Black Loch", affects only two holes (15 and, especially, the 16th) at Rosemount.

Rosemount Course: built on a site Old Tom Morris called "The most beautiful inland green I have ever seen", and designed by Scottish course designer James Braid with influences from Dr. Alistair McKenzie, Rosemount has hosted numerous prestigious professional and amateur tournaments including Greg Norman’s first European Tour victory. Despite all of the famed seaside links courses in Scotland, Blairgowrie Rosemount was voted 11th best course to play in Scotland by the readers of Scotland’s premier golf magazine.

The 18th green at Blairgowrie's Lansdowne course. Manus McGinty photo.Lansdowne Course: New in 1979, Blairgowrie’s second championship course lies alongside the already famous Rosemount course. Course designer Peter Aliss—Americans know him as the British commentator on televised golf tournaments—was "delighted to have this opportunity of creating a course through a pine forest". Apparently, a great many golfers are satisfied with the results.

THE REGION: There’s plenty of golf and lots more to do in Central Scotland. There are excellent golf courses nearby at Carnoustie, Taymouth Castle, Crieff, Gleneagles, Callander, and others. Within reach are such popular destinations as St. Andrews and other greater and lesser links courses on both coasts. Fishing, touring, exploring castles, strolling through charming villages, and shopping for Scottish woolens and other crafts are excellent in this region. Walkers will enjoy walking in great scenery along the lochs and glens, and climbing up numerous high mountains in the area.
