You want New Zealand eclectic? Rotorua Lodge combines the relaxed atmosphere of a plush, rural retreat with the sporting camaraderie of a fishing lodge. An enthusiastic, personable Anglo-Kiwi couple (originally from the Cotswolds and Yorkshire) are the owner/hosts. They are dedicated to the comfort of their guests and the success of
their visits. For many guests the pursuit of New Zealand happiness culminates here.
-

THE ACCOMMODATION: Rotorua Lodge offers three spacious bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and TV. Bathrooms have hair dryers and heated towel racks. The bedrooms feature views overlooking Lake Rotorua, two from furnished balconies.
Common rooms include a spacious guest lounge overlooking the lake with Sky TV, pool table, library, fridge, computer/internet station, and tea/coffee facilities. There is a separate conservatory/breakfast room with cozy log fire and bar.

SPACIOUS, COMFORTABLE FACILITIES AT ROTORUA LODGE

The lodge provides guests a choice of
continental or cooked-to-order breakfast each morning. Wide, furnished verandahs open onto manicured lawns and gardens with spa pool and barbecue. Telephone, fax, internet, and laundry are available.

THE SETTING: The cedar wood and native stone house stands at the end of a non-through street (no traffic noise) on a point at the entrance of a trout fishing creek into Lake Rotorua.

Rotorua Lodge offers anglers trout
stream and lake fishing from its ideal
position on Lake Rotorua. Non-anglers will like the lodge's privacy, quiet,
and outstanding convenience as a
base for touring the Rotorua region.

THE OWNER/HOSTS AT ROTORUA LODGE take an active interest in their guests, and are enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about their adopted home, New Zealand's Rotorua region. Originally from rural England, the married couple emigrated to New Zealand where they raised their children while operating the lodge and organizing fishing trips for visitors. They will help you make arrangements for all kinds of activities, from golf to dinner reservations—but especially fishing, for your host is an expert fishing guide.

HIGHLY-RATED: Rotorua Lodge is a perennially top-rated Home At First accommodation on the North Island of New Zealand by guest review.

Come face to face with native New Zealanders on their turf. Experience a Maori cultural evening with a traditional hangi dinner at Tamaki Village. Photo © Home At First.
Visitors to Rotorua can encounter
New Zealand's native Maori culture
at a native-owned geo-thermal park
and at a Maori cultural evening that
 includes a traditional hangi dinner.

THE LOCATION: of Rotorua Lodge is about ten minutes drive northwest of the small city of Rotorua, best known as the center of New Zealand’s large, active geothermal area. Like America’s Yellowstone Park, Rotorua’s two thermal reserves—Whakarewarewa and Waiotapu—are home to a strange geology of geysers, fumeroles, boiling mudpots, and hot springs. The thermal reserves can be found by following your nose—the pungent smell of sulphur permeates Rotorua (but does not reach Rotorua Lodge).
Rotorua is also a well-known center of native Maori culture. The Whakarewarewa thermal reserve is on Maori land—land sacred to native New Zealanders. The dual attractions of the large geothermal zone and the Maori culture make Rotorua a major New Zealand tourism center. For its size Rotorua offers a great number of restaurants, shops, and activities.

ACTIVITIES: In addition to the thermal reserve, Rotorua offers the opportunity to observe traditional Maori life daytimes at Whakarewarewa Thermal Village. In the evenings it is possible to experience a Maori hangi and concert. After native experiences and geothermal wonders, Rotorua’s third major drawing card is fishing. World-class trout fishing is available here—on Lake Rotorua and other regional lakes and streams. Your host is a fishing expert who can organize guided fishing excursions on Lake Rotorua and throughout the region, with guides, licenses, transport, provisions, and equipment provided.

In addition, at Rotorua Lodge there is canoeing on the lake, and motorboat rental. Nearby, there are 5 golf courses (including Arikikapakapa Golf Club with active geo-thermal fairways and hazards), hunting and horseback riding, helicopter touring, white water rafting, and, at the Agrodome theme park, jetboating, bungy jumping, and zorbing—making the Rotorua area a major outdoor and adventure activities center on the North Island.
