COMRIE, KENMORE, KILLIN, MUTHILL, and ST. FILLANS in CENTRAL SCOTLAND

MAINS OF TAYMOUTH GOLF CLUB, KENMORE, PERTHSHIRE, SCOTLAND CENTRAL HIGHLANDS

Why would anyone want to vacation in Scotland and play golf? That's an easy one. Scotland is the home of golf. Scotland has some of the world's most historic and scenic courses. Playing golf there permits a glimpse of a distinctive part of Scotland's culture.
Why would anyone want to vacation in Scotland and play these unknown 9-hole courses in the Central Highlands? That's also an easy one. Same Answer.

Course
Description

Rolling 9-hole public Highland course of 3008 yards from the white tees. Play it twice for a par 70. From the red  tees, Comrie is 2624 yards & par 37 per 9 holes. Comrie is hilly, interesting, scenic and mature (built 1891). Club, cart (buggy), and pull cart rental.

A rolling 9-hole parkland course with great views along the north shore of the River Tay. 6,052 yards, par-70 SSS 69 from the white tees. 5,064 yards, par-70 SSS 71 from the red tees. Built 1992. Guests always welcome. Club, cart (buggy), and pull cart rental.

9-hole public parkland course on hilly terrain along north shore of Loch Tay with grand views of Ben Lawers & Tar-machan Ridge mountains. Played twice, it's 5036 yards, par 66, SSS 65. 4,491 yards, par-66 from the red tees. Built 1913 on a John Duncan design. Visitors wel-come except on competition days. Club, cart (buggy), and pull cart rental.

9-hole public course, shorter and flatter than the upland Trossachs courses. Par 66, 4673 yards (when played twice), SSS 63. 4,525 yards, par-66 from the red tees. The nearest golf course to Glen-eagles is also the anti-thesis of Gleneagles, al-though they do share the same undulating terrain and some of the same sweeping views.

Largely flat 9-hole parkland course (6,054 yards, par 70, when 18 holes are played). 5,412 yards, par-74 from the red tees.  De-signed by the legendary Willie Auchterlonie in 1903, the course is wedged be-tween the mouth of Loch Earn and the neighboring hills. Club, cart (buggy), & pull cart rental.
Sandy Lyle holds the course record (66).

Yes, we know there are no shrines among this list. And no slow play and difficulties getting tee times and no high greens fees. And no required handicap certification and no pretensions, and no false bravado, and no nerves on the first tee.
And there are no classic links courses on this list. And no thickets of rough, no Force-Ten winds, and—look!—trees.
For many, a Scottish golf vacation is one where the golf is the vacation.
For others a Scottish vacation can include some challenging, inexpensive, fun, golf. The Nines of the Perthshire Highlands provide this latter experience.

But 9-holes? Don't real golfers play only 18, 27, or 36 at a time? Yes. And don't they like to play a course more than once so they can get a sense of its personality, its quirkiness, its challenge, its uniqueness? Yes, again. Play the nines twice (at least) and get a feel for their intrinsic Scottish character. Day tickets permit unlimited play on any given course, so play 36 holes. Will your score improve each time 'round?
Don't think of them as unremarked and unremarkable courses. Think of them as covering some of the best scenery in the Trossachs of central Scotland. Through
HOME AT FIRST, golfers can order the 5-day Perthshire Highlands Golf Ticket for £65 (£13 per day is cheap golf!) or the 3-day version for £40, and play several local courses (including Comrie, Crieff-Dornock, Kenmore, Killin, Muthill, and St. Fillans) during their stay in the Central Highlands. Play more than one course in a day, if you like. Or play some days and not others. Combine a day trip to one area of the Highlands with 9 holes of golf in that corner of the region.
