THE SETTING:
ODonoghues Carriage House is set in an idyllic rural setting just 2
miles from Nenagh, principal market town of northern County Tipperary
in the very center of Ireland.
Although the regions history certainly predates the Anglo-Norman
invasion of Ireland, Nenagh traces its beginnings to the building of the
towns landmark castle keep (tower) by powerful Norman family, the
Butlers, in 1200AD. Near the end of the medieval period Englands King
Henry VIII granted the Butlers the right to hold a recognized market in
Nenagh. Nenagh (pop. 7,500) offers numerous restaurants, pubs, shops,
and services (including rail and bus transport), including a major new
supermarket complex. The nearest store to the cottage is half-way (one
mile distant) to Nenagh
a small convenience shop attached to a filling station. |
