1.
EASTERN DENMARK: COPENHAGEN, ROSKILDE, AND ZEALAND:
Denmark's
capital, Copenhagen, is both
lively
and lovely, trend-
setting and traditional, royal and risqué. From Copenhagen,
regional Zealand's folk history and modern, groundbreaking
culture may be discovered by
comfortable day-trips. Expect to find
Viking festivals and dragon boats, Hamlet's Castle and royal
palaces, mid-summer parades, glittering
city shopping malls, and
sumptuous restaurants with Michelin stars and thatched roofs.
2.
CENTRAL DENMARK: ODENSE AND FUNEN:
The island of Funen is
set between
Denmark's western mainland (Jutland) and its great
eastern island,
Zealand, and Copenhagen. Funen is Denmark's
agricultural heartland: pony carts, hay wagons, sun-drenched
golden fields, and
miles of biking and walking paths. Odense is
Funen's principal city, a university
town, cultural center, and
birthplace of beloved writer Hans Christian Andersen. Easy central
touring for all of Denmark by auto.
3.
WESTERN DENMARK: AARHUS,
AALBORG & JUTLAND: The
northern finger of Europe, encircled in white sand, sustained by
artists' communities and sunbathers from around the world, and
home of some of the finest hotel-castles to be found
anywhere.
Home, too, to Denmark's second city, Aarhus. This university
town
is the culture center of northern Denmark and likely
Scandinavia's
oldest city. Further north is Aalborg, capital of northern
Jutland,
historic university town with Viking roots over 1,000 years
deep. |
