This classic landscape is the image of traditional
English countryside. The region is both geographically and culturally
delineated, set roughly between the Thames River valley to the east, the
River Avon to the south, the River Severn to the west, and the Malvern
Hills and Shakespeare country to the north.

Known for
quaint communities
with multi-hyphened names (Stowe-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Hill),
thatched houses, and easy country walking between obscurely named pubs,
the Cotswolds embodies much that is both familiar and eccentric about
our cultural associations with England.

HOME AT
FIRST’s cottages are in or
close to
Tetbury, a typical Cotswold town still largely
unspoiled by tourism. Here are shops, restaurants, and pubs where you
will meet the local residents, perhaps even Tetbury's most famous
resident, a prominent member of the British royal family. Tetbury's
location makes it within easy
day-trip reach of Bath, South Wales,
Portsmouth,
Salisbury & Stonehenge,
Oxford,
and Berkeley Castle. |

cottages are in or near
Chipping Campden,
a famous Cotswolds village known for its thatched "cottages", medieval
church, and annual 400-year-old Cotswold "Olympicks". Chipping Campden's
location makes it close to Shakespeare Country (Stratford-upon-Avon is
about 30 minutes away),
Oxford,
Mid-Wales, and Warwick Castle. |

HOME AT
FIRST’s Cotswolds cottages
are well equipped with all the comforts of home and ready for

"We covered the
town! Went into every one of the 17 antique shops, bought
groceries in the market, wine in the wine shop next door, and
bought fresh bread and newspapers early each morning. We went to
church at St. Mary's on Sunday. We ate a couple of times at The
Snooty Fox, took lunch at The Two Toads, enjoyed dinner at the
Royal Oak pub, and enjoyed a really spiffy meal at #65 Long
Street."
—C.
Curtis, New York
"Our cottage in Tetbury was delightful. What a privilege
to stay in this wonderful, historic house."
—R. &
P. Tyler, Arizona
"Our historic cottage
was so unique as to need no
additional superlatives. the general plan, directions and
hints of places to see
were
remarkable."
—W. Chase, Hawaii
"What a beautiful,
comfortable (dating from 1275!) house! Perfect location in the
heart of Tetbury but very quiet — could walk to the baker, post
office, butcher shop, etc., in 5 minutes. Our whole trip was a
delight!!!"
—Bob & Ann W. Kentucky
